Gazprom Nedra Conducted Integrated Training Exercises Involving the Arkticheskaya Drilling Rig

An integrated emergency drill took place on 14 July in the waters of the Kola Bay, aimed at managing an oil and petroleum product spill during the construction of a prospecting and appraisal well on the Kara Sea shelf.

The event was held within the Murmansk seaport boundaries at the base location of the Arkticheskaya jack-up drilling rig. The comprehensive training exercise was arranged by Gazprom Nedra, in compliance with the current legislation, before the offshore platform saw its departure to the drilling point in the Kara Sea.

PJSC Gazprom, Gazprom Nedra LLC, JSC Gazprom Shelfproject, Murmansk Seaport Administration, the Federal Supervisory Natural Resources Management Service, FSBI Marine Rescue Service, Dikson Marine Rescue Coordination Centre, and the EMERCOM Nenets Autonomous District Department participated in the training activities. The exercise was implemented using the Piltun multi-purpose rescue vessel and the Sapfir supply vessel.

Participants in the exercise cooperated to contain and clean up a simulated 117-t diesel fuel spill. The exercises assumed the form of routine operation mode. They included the deployment of oil gathering equipment, the collection of the “oily water mixture”, its transfer to a vessel for further transportation to the disposal facility, and water area sorbent treatment.

The State Commission for Exercise Evaluation acknowledged that the organisational and technical resources available were sufficient to eliminate similar contamination.
