Gazprom Nedra Conducted Training Exercises in the Arctic
On 18 June, special tactical training exercises were held in the Barents Sea. They were designed to test emergency responses during the construction of prospecting and appraisal wells and were organised by Gazprom Nedra LLC. The event took place at the Severnoye Siyaniye semi-submersible rig. The rig was mobilised to the Arctic shelf in May this year to carry out geological exploration work.
In addition to the company’s experts and the drilling rig crew, representatives of PJSC Gazprom, JSC Gazprom Shelfproject and the FSBI Marine Rescue Service participated in the training activities. The exercise involved emergency rescue and towing vessels as well as supply vessels.
The tactical scenario for the training drills covered simulated emergencies that were designed to practise the consolidated operations of all services and units when conducting open sea search and rescue procedures, extinguishing a simulated fire on a drilling rig, and containing and eliminating oil and oil product spills during the construction of offshore wells.
The training exercises were carried out successfully. They demonstrated the tangible readiness of senior and emergency response personnel to handle possible risks, as well as there being sufficient technical means to prevent and eliminate the consequences of potential threats.
