Gazprom Nedra has successfully tested an exploration well in the Kara Sea

Gazprom Nedra LLC tested an exploration well in the Kara Sea from the semi-submersible floating drilling rig (SSFDR) Severnoye Siyaniye.
Tests from deposits in the Tanopcha Formation resulted in a commercial flow of gas-condensate mixture. Hydrodynamic studies have confirmed the high potential of the deposit, which will provide an increase in proven gas and condensate reserves and place them on the national register.

On completion of the exploration well, the Severnoye Siyaniye will be towed to the Barents Sea to build another exploration well in the Arctic. This year, Gazprom Nedra LLC plans to build two offshore wells in the Barents and Kara Seas using a single floating drilling rig, which will achieve significant savings on mobilisation and demobilisation.

The mobilisation of the Severnoye Siyaniye SSFDR from the port of Murmansk to a drilling site in the Kara Sea in order to support well construction for the 2022 field season was launched in mid-July of this year.

Commenting on the results of exploration well testing in the Kara Sea, Vsevolod Cherepanov, General Director of Gazprom Nedra LLC, called them an “important milestone” in solving one of the company’s main strategic tasks related to carrying out exploration work on the Arctic shelf in order to prepare gas production centres.
