Gazprom Nedra Enhances its Seismic Exploration Risk Management System
From October 15–17, 2024 in Tyumen, Gazprom Nedra LLC conducted a risk management session that focused on seismic exploration; the session was designed to promote a safety culture and ensure the implementation of various measures aimed at preventing incidents during seismic exploration activities.
The session was attended by management representatives, professional experts from various departments and units within the company’s administration and Competence Development Centre, as well as the heads and personnel of the seismic crews from the production branches PF Tomskgazgeofizika and PF Kostromagazgeofizika, both part of Gazprom Nedra LLC.
In his opening remarks to the meeting participants, Evgeny Nikonov, the First Deputy General Director of Gazprom Nedra LLC, noted that the session marked the first time that preparations for the upcoming field seismic exploration season were being discussed in the format of a risk session. Previously, these meetings had focused primarily on production issues related to field crew logistical support.
Evgeny Nikonov stressed that “one of the main priorities for company managers at all levels, alongside ensuring growth in financial and production performance, is the early and comprehensive assessment of potential risks, the effective prevention of any hazards, and the protection of the health and lives of company personnel.”
Sergey Nizovtsev, the Head of the Geophysics Exploration Department at Gazprom Nedra LLC, reported that the 2024–2025 field season for the company’s seismic exploration unit would be “large-scale”. “Given the extensive scope of work to be carried out in challenging climatic and natural conditions, the outcomes of the risk session are crucial for ensuring flawless organization and safe execution,” stated Sergey Nizovtsev.
Anatoly Sukhodolov, the Deputy General Director — Chief Engineer at Gazprom Nedra LLC, commended the results of the risk session, highlighting that all its participants had “engaged with great interest in discussing the potential risks, both those typical of seismic exploration and those that may arise in the upcoming field season.” He noted that the most valuable outcome of the meeting was marked by the specific initiatives and proposals from the field crew workers, which, after careful review and systematization, would serve as the foundation for a range if initiatives aimed at further enhancing and securing a safe working environment for the Gazprom Nedra LLC seismic crews.
