Gazprom Nedra LLC Completes the Field Seismic Exploration Season

Gazprom Nedra has completed seismic exploration works in the licensed areas (LAs) of PJSC Gazprom and its subsidiary companies in Eastern and Western Siberia, the Kamchatka Territory and the Volgograd Region. The works were carried out by seismic exploration crews from the company’s production units (Kostromagazgeofizika and Tomskgazgeofizika) and contractors.

In the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the 3D seismic exploration area within PJSC Gazprom’s new licensed areas of Ozerny and Choron-Yuryakh, amounted to approximately to 250 km2. The data obtained will be used to further outline the geological structure of these areas and determine their resource potential.

The total area of high-density wide-azimuth seismic surveys conducted by Gazprom Nedra LLC in the Vostochno-Bovanenkovsky and Urengoysky license areas, within the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, (YNAO) totalled approximately 1,500 km2.

Large-scale pilot tests of a domestic wireless seismic recording system were conducted as part of the works completed by the company in the YNAO, at the request of Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy LLC. A field test was conducted in the challenging natural and climatic conditions of the Far North using 3,500 nodal blocks.

The total area of seismic exploration works in Kamchatka Territory, within the Annensky-2 subsoil area owned by Gazprom Dobycha Noyabrsk LLC, amounted to 500 km2.

During the 2023–2024 surveying season, Gazprom Nedra LLC experts also implemented seismic exploration projects at wells in the Volgograd Region and YNAO. At the request of Gazprom PKhG LLC, a geophysical exploration project using 3D vertical seismic profiling technology was carried out in the Volgograd Region. The objective was to study the geological structure of the Kungurian salt-bearing strata and supra-salt deposits of the sedimentary cover layer of an underground gas storage facility.

At the request of Gazprom Dobycha Noyabrsk LLC, a set of experimental and methodological seismic exploration surveys was conducted within the Komsomolsky subsoil area in the YNAO. The objective was to determine the azimuth of the prospecting and appraisal well horizontal borehole.

According to Alexey Ovechkin, the Director General of Gazprom Nedra LLC, “It is unfeasible to consistently replenish Gazprom’s mineral resource base without conducting large-scale seismic surveys. The geophysical data obtained by our company’s experts during the recent surveying season will assist in validating the potential of new licensed areas, as well as optimizing the further development of our existing fields.”
