Gazprom Nedra LLC Has Commenced Field Seismic Exploration Season
The company Gazprom Nedra has begun field seismic exploration work within the licensed areas of PJSC Gazprom and its subsidiaries, in a number of regions of the Russian Federation. The work is being carried out by seismic exploration crews of the company’s production branches (Kostromagazgeofizika and Tomskgazgeofizika) and contractors.
In the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), seismic exploration work has begun within the Ozerny and Choron-Yuryakh areas. During the preparatory period, the residential and production facilities of the seismic crews, special machinery and geophysical equipment were mobilised over a distance of more than 2.5 thousand km (including by water transport along the Lena River) from the Irkutsk region to the field camp location. In February-April of this year, a seismic survey will be carried out in order to specify the geological structure and determine the resource potential of these licensed areas.
Within the 2023–2024 field season, Gazprom Nedra LLC will conduct a high-density wide-azimuth seismic survey at the Vostochno-Bovanenkovsky and Urengoysky licensed areas in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YNAO). The geophysical research project carried out within the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug includes large-scale pilot tests of the domestic seismic recording complex, necessary for further improvement of the technology.
In the Kamchatka Kray, Seismic exploration work in the Annensky-2 area is scheduled to be completed. The research, carried out by a contractor commissioned by Gazprom Nedra LLC is carried out in the difficult terrain and climatic conditions of the Kamchatka Peninsula.
Also, this 2023–2024 field season, specialists from Gazprom Nedra LLC are implementing projects at wells in the Volgograd region as well as in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. In the Volgograd Region, the company has now begun geophysical research using three-dimensional vertical seismic profiling technology in order to study the geological structure of the Kungurian salt-bearing strata and supra-salt deposits of the sedimentary cover of an underground gas storage facility. At the Komsomolsky subsoil area in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, preparations are underway to carry out a set of experimental and methodological seismic exploration surveys to select the azimuth of the horizontal borehole of the prospecting and appraisal well.
“Both the effectiveness of geological exploration work as a whole and the overall efficiency of further field development depend on timely and high-quality seismic exploration. The company’s divisions specialising in exploration geophysics have extensive experience in field research and are proficient in the range of modern methods and technologies required in order to implement projects of high complexity in the regions of our operations”, noted Alexey Ovechkin, the Director General of Gazprom Nedra LLC.
