Gazprom Nedra has successfully completed its drilling season on the Arctic shelf
Gazprom Nedra LLC completed the construction of an exploratory well in the Barents Sea. In the course of work, a significant amount of core material was sampled and a wide range of geological and geophysical exploration was carried out. The tests allowed to achieve a commercial gas inflow from pay formations. This work will allow for increasing the previously proven hydrocarbon reserves to enter them on the state balance sheet.
This is the second well constructed by Gazprom Nedra LLC in the 2022 navigation season using Severnoye Siyaniye, a semi-submersible mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU) deployed in the Barents Sea.
“In the first outing of our company with exploratory drilling to the Barents Sea, we tested a new technique to use one drilling platform to construct two wells during one navigation season. This year, Severnoye Siyaniye MODU was deployed to the Arctic in July and redeployed to Murmansk port in December. During this challenging project, we have successfully achieved all our goals: we have increased the commercial value of two explored areas on the Arctic shelf and proven cost efficiency of the applied logistics scheme,” Vsevolod Cherepanov, General Director of Gazprom Nedra LLC, commented on the results of offshore exploration.
