Gazprom Nedra experts shared their experience in exploration works on the Russian Arctic shelf

A delegation of specialists from Gazprom Nedra LLC took part in the 15th International Conference on the Development of Oil and Gas Resources in the Russian Arctic and the Continental Shelf RAO / CIS Offshore 2021, which was held from September 21 to 24 in St. Petersburg.

Vladislav Khoshtaria, Head of the Offshore Geological Exploration Department of Gazprom Nedra LLC, spoke at the round table “Development of the Hydrocarbon Resource Base of the Arctic and Its Continental Shelf”, presenting the report “Experience of Exploration and Discovery of PJSC Gazprom Fields on the Arctic Continental Shelf of the Kara Sea”. Vladislav Khoshtaria spoke about the geological exploration works carried out on the Priyamal shelf and discovered fields: the V.A. Dinkov field (unique in terms of gas reserves) as well as the large Nyarmeyskoye and 75 Let Pobedi fields, the total gas reserves of which reach over 800 billion cubic metres.
“In the period from 2017 to 2020, 6 prospecting and appraisal and exploration boreholes were built on the shelf of the Kara Sea, each of which demonstrated an increase in gas reserves. When testing wells, production rates were up to 1 million cubic metres of gas per day, which is a record for fields on the Russian Arctic shelf,” noted Vladislav Khoshtaria. He also said that currently Gazprom Nedra LLC is conducting additional exploration of the Skuratovskaya area within the 75 Let Pobedi Field and the Leningradskoye Gas Condensate Field. Starting next year, the Company plans to apply a fundamentally new scheme of using one drilling rig for construction of boreholes in the Barents and Kara Seas in one field season.

Nikita Rybin spoke about the Company’s experience in advance rat-holing for appraisal and exploration boreholes on the shelf

Nikita Rybin, Head of the Geophysical Works and Research Department of Gazprom Nedra LLC Offshore Geological Exploration Directorate, gave the presentation “Results of Advance Rat-Holing for Appraisal and Exploration boreholes on the Arctic Shelf in the 2021 Field Season”. The speaker shared the Company's successful experience in implementing the first project of this kind in Russia. Using a Russian research engineering vessel on the Arctic shelf, in July, five rat-holes were drilled with an average depth of about 560 m, which subsequently made it possible to ensure the safety of operations of floating drilling rigs as well as reduce the construction time of exploration boreholes, respectively, having a positive economic impact.
